Boss
Balrog
Balrog is a boss of the tank type found in Lost Tower.
Lore
The Balrog is the boss of Lost Tower, a demon of fire and smoke that crossed the Seal on the same night the tower lost its own summit. It struck down the mages one by one and made the highest hall its lair, where the embers never die.
Gigantic and nearly impossible to tire, it withstands an enormous number of blows as it advances wreathed in flames. When a hero draws near, it cracks Fire Whip, a blazing lash that splits the air and leaves the floor glowing.
Special attack
Fire Whip: every 4 attacks, Balrog hits for 166% of its normal damage and ignores 8% of your defense. Loot focus: Armor (Standard).

Drops
As a boss, Balrog drops equipment up to Ancient, sometimes from the family after the one the map's monsters drop, and has a higher chance of jewels (Bless, Soul, Chaos). See the item list by class on the map's page: Lost Tower.

On Hard items drop as Nightmare (+40% to flat attributes and +30% to % bonuses); on Hardcore they also drop as Nightmare, and once in a while, very rarely, a Godlike (+80%) comes, delivered by letter.
Special enemies pay more: the Elite drops an item 38% of the time, the Champion 70% and the Ancient Monster 100%; Champion and Ancient Monster raise the item's rarity by 1 level. The jewel chance is 2× on the Elite, 4× on the Champion and 8× on the Ancient Monster. Each Reset also raises the jewel chance a little. See Special enemies (PT).
